Muzzammil Hassan, 44, told police his wife had died at his office in the Buffalo suburb of Orchard Park, New York state, last Thursday. Hassan was held as police were deployed to the Bridges TV television station, where Aasiya Hassan's decapitated body was found. Orchard Park police chief Andrew Benz said: "He came in and told us his wife was dead." He said Hassan was then arrested and charged with murder. His wife, 37, had filed for divorce earlier this year after episodes of domestic violence, her lawyer, Corey Hogan, said. He added she had obtained a protection order barring her husband from their Orchard Park home. The Pakistani-born ex-banker said in previous interviews that it had been his wife's idea to launch Bridges TV. Programming on the channel ranges from religious content to news, documentaries and soap operas aimed at North American Muslims. It aims to dispel negative stereotypes about Muslims in the region. A statement from Bridges TV said it was "deeply shocked and saddened by the murder," as well as Hassan's subsequent arrest. Hassan is said to have two children, age four and six, with his wife and two other children, 17 and 18, from a previous marriage.
